Pocket Enigma Box
About Pocket Enigma Box
Okay, so I just finished Pocket Enigma Box and I literally cannot sleep. It’s almost 11 PM! Remember how Mark told me it was like, "a variety of puzzle games gathered together, all of which are very fun and can exercise your reaction ability"? Dude, he was SO wrong. That's like describing pizza as "bread with toppings." Technically true, but completely misses the point.
This game isn't about reaction time at all. It's like... it's a story you uncover, piece by piece, through these really clever "boxes." When I first started, I was like, okay, another match-three or something. But the first box wasn't a puzzle, it was a dusty old music box. And when I 'solved' it, it played this super faint, melancholic tune, and a little faded photo of a girl and a cat popped up. It wasn't a score, it was a memory. That's when I knew this was different.
Honestly, I'm not usually into these super deep story games, I just like blowing stuff up or racing cars, but this was different. It makes you feel like your an actual detective, slowly uncovering someone's life. Like, there was this one "enigma" called 'The Forgotten Attic' and you had to click on things in a messy drawing to find hidden numbers, but the numbers weren't for a code, they were dates. And when you put them in order, it built this timeline of a family's summer vacation. It was so simple but it hit me right in the feels, you know?
I started playing around 8 PM, thinking I'd do like, two stages. Next thing I know, it's 10:45 and I'm still trying to figure out why the lighthouse keeper left his diary half-finished. I literally couldn't stop. The way they do the sound design too, it’s not loud, but like, little creaks and distant chimes, it just pulls you in. I already told Chloe from work she has to try it. Because it's just so *clever*. It's not about being fast, it's about being observant and feeling things. It's really, really good. You have to play it.
