Twisted Steel: Bullet Storm
About Twisted Steel: Bullet Storm
Dude, you are NOT gonna believe this. It's 11 PM and I literally cannot sleep because I'm still thinking about Twisted Steel: Bullet Storm. Remember how I told you that description I read made it sound like just another crazy car combat game, like Twisted Metal but post-apocalyptic? Yeah, that was totally wrong. Like, describing a gourmet burger as "meat between bread." Technically true, but completely missing the point.
Honestly, I was kinda dreading it. I figured it'd be all explosions and mindless shooting. But the first time I loaded it up, I spawned in this huge, silent desert, "The Rustlands," with my beat-up car, "The Roadrunner," barely running. I tried to just floor it and smash into some other junker I saw, thinking that was the game. Nope. My car barely scratched it, and then I got lit up by its turrets, and suddenly I was out of fuel and stranded. Dead. That's when I realized this game is *not* what they said.
It's actually a survival game, dude! Like, you spend most of your time scavenging for fuel, for parts, for scrap metal to fix your car. The combat is there, yeah, but it's like a last resort. You *don't* want to fight, because ammo is super rare, and your car takes damage, and you need those parts to keep going. It's like Mad Max meets Oregon Trail, but with a really cool car you get to build up.
I spent like three hours just trying to find enough gas to get to the next safe zone, "The Iron Depot," avoiding these massive "Dreadnaught" vehicles that would just obliterate me. There was this one moment, I was hiding behind a busted tanker, and I heard the *thrum* of a Dreadnaught engine getting closer, and I held my breath, like I was actually there. And then I figured out, if you turn off your engine completely, they sometimes just drive right past your your little car. So clever! I played way longer than I meant to, next thing I knew it was 3 AM.
I'm not usually into these slow, methodical games, I like my action fast. But this was different. It makes you feel so desperate, but also so smart when you pull off a risky salvage run without getting caught. I told Mark about it today, he'd probably love it. It's fun, really, really fun. You gotta try it.
